The U.S. Department of labor’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD) announced in a press release its enforcement data for Fiscal Year 2008. In FY 2008, WHD recouped back wage worth of $185,287 for 228,645 workers, which is a decrease compared to $220,613,703 for 341,624 workers in FY 2007.
The WHD didn’t mention the figure of FY 2007. Instead, WHD note that the statistic is a 40 percent increase over the FY 2001. The press release notes: “Since FY 2001, WHD has recouped more than $1.4 billion back wages for over two million workers.
The administrator for the Wage and Hour Division, Alexander J. Passantino, offers this statistics in order to ask for more funds to increase enforcement measures. He thinks that the stronger and stronger enforcement results are the effective prove that the comprehensive approach is working. WHD has urged more funds in the president’s FU 09 budge to hire additional investigators.
